MUSIC CONCERT
Area music ensemble remains committed to charitable performances along with regular concert schedule.
“Riddle on the Harp” is not your average music group. Patti Black, Barbara Compter and Jean Wibbens are Bedford County musicians who, from the outset, felt a responsibility to give back to the community. Their performance schedule has always included a healthy dose of fund-raisers and charitable concerts for area nursing homes and other nonprofit organizations. This commitment to helping others is apparent in their individual volunteer activities as well.

The Riddle women are particularly excited about their upcoming performance at the Awareness Garden in Lynchburg later this month. The garden was started as a memorial for those whose lives have been touched by cancer, and band guitarist Barbara, a breast cancer survivor, knows this challenge first-hand. When she “rang the bell” at the Awareness Garden a few years ago to celebrate her one year anniversary, the rest of the band joined in her celebration and held a benefit concert for the foundation that maintains the garden and awards scholarships. Returning to play music as part of the annual dedication ceremony on May 17 will be an especially meaningful event for them.

In addition to their charitable performances, the band performs regularly at area coffeehouses, festivals, weddings and private parties. They fill the stage with an assortment of wind and string instruments, including hammered dulcimers, guitars, flutes and whistles, celtic harp, percussion instruments and more. A number of their traditional instruments were hand-crafted by local luthier, James Jones. Riddle’s unique repertoire of tunes from around the world will soothe, stir, amuse and refresh. They will be performing at The Whole Note Performance Club in Bedford on Friday, May 15. More information is available from their website: www.riddleontheharp.com.
